WHAT SIZE LADDER DO I NEED?
Size refers to the ANSI definition of length. ANSI states that the size is defined by the combined length of all rail sections, with a tolerance of +/-3” on each section. Note, this does not take into account any overlap between sliding sections like those on an extension or multi-purpose ladder. This can cause a disparity in the size of the ladder versus the actual height. To determine which ladder you need, Werner recommends you reference maximum reach height instead of size.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIZE AND MAXIMUM REACH HEIGHT?
Ladder specifications can be confusing due to safety regulation requirements. According to ANSI (American National Standards Institute), the ladder size is defined as the total length of each section and does not account for overlap on extension ladders. As a result, the overlapping sections reduce the total length of the ladder. When purchasing any ladder customers should pay particular attention to the maximum reach to ensure the correct product for the job.
WHAT IS THE HIGHEST YOU CAN STAND ON A STEP LADDER?
The highest you can stand on a step ladder is two steps below the top cap.
WHAT IS THE HIGHEST YOU CAN STAND ON AN EXTENSION LADDER?
The highest you can stand is four rungs from the top of the extension ladder.
IS A SINGLE PERSON PER LADDER ADVISED?
Yes, unless otherwise stated on the ladder instructions, a single person to a ladder is advised. Some ladders, such as twin-step ladders, will allow for two people to work on one ladder.
ON A PODIUM LADDER, CAN YOU WORK ON THE PLATFORM AND THE STEPS?
Yes, on a Werner PODIUM ladder you can work either on the platform or on the steps. If working from the steps, the ladder would function like a standard step ladder. All of the instructions for the use of a standard step ladder would apply such as always facing the ladder while working from the steps and not turning 360 degrees like promoted while on the platforms.
